FIVE-STAR DE JARED SMITH

Let's go ahead and discuss the heavy hitter with five-star defensive end prospect Jared Smith from Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama. I get that Seminole fans are nervous about recruiting prospects from the state of Alabama given what happened with prospects that were committed to Florida State such as Keldric Faulk and Red Morgan.

However, the program is gaining more traction in the area. Florida State needs to continue pursuing talented prospects regardless of the area. While I know recruiting states such as Florida and Georgia is important, the Seminoles cannot eliminate themselves from the recruitment just because the prospect is not from those two states.

Overall, the talented defensive end prospect has a busy slate of summer visits where he will be officially visiting South Carolina (May 31), Georgia (June 7), Tennessee (June 14), Florida State (June 18) and USC (June 21). It helps not having the in-state schools such as Alabama and Auburn involved.

This is certainly a recruitment that Florida State could get involved with. I am excited to see if the coaching staff can make a good impression, but I wish that Smith could come to campus on the weekend of June 21st instead of traveling to Los Angeles.
