DE PATRICK PAYTON

Florida State's coaching staff will have the difficult task of replacing the likes of ultra-talented pass rusher Jared Verse, who was selected by the Los Angeles Rams as the 19th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Defensive ends coach John Papuchis has had major success with developing players at his position such as Jermaine Johnson II, Keir Thomas, and Jared Verse. The next in line to be a successful pass rusher is redshirt junior Patrick Payton.

The former four-star prospect was a prospect that the Seminoles recruited during the 2021 cycle. He hailed from Miami Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida. Payton was under 200 pounds when he arrived in Tallahassee.

He had a productive 2023 campaign alongside Verse where he recorded 44 tackles (14.5 for loss), ten pass breakups, and seven sacks. Payton went through a weight change where he is now listed at 254 pounds which could give him an advantage with getting to the quarterback.
