Special teams coordinator John Papuchis tries out 3 players at punt return duties
RB JAYLIN LUCAS
This was an obvious player that Papuchis was trying out. We know that Indiana's running back/wide receiver Jaylin Lucas was going to be utilized on offense all over the field.
However, his biggest impact will likely be in the special teams aspect. He had a wildly successful two-year career with the Hoosiers where he specialized in kickoff returns. Even though Lucas has a small frame where he is listed at 5'8", he has electric speed in the open field.
Punt return might be a little bit of an adjustment for him since kickoff return duties can give a headstart while punt returning requires a bit of patience. I like the idea of Lucas being the punt returner, but I wonder how he will adjust to it since he hasn't done it in the game.
I am always in favor of getting Lucas with the football in his hands. Considering that the Seminoles have speed all over the place, I like the idea of the former Indiana transfer getting additional opportunities to help the offense gain a better opening field position.
