Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald and punter Alex Mastromanno deserve their flowers

Let's discuss something positive from Florida State's loss to Memphis.

FSU football continues to lose as the Seminoles fall to the Memphis Tigers in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium by a score of 20-12.

The fan base is growing thin as the program continues to struggle. As a fan, I will always support and be there for the program as I have been a season ticket holder with the Seminoles since 2009. As a result, I have seen the last season of former head football coach Bobby Bowden at Florida State... enough said.

However, we know that something has to change. I talked about in a previous article that everything falls on Norvell. He even apologized to the individuals associated with the university. With that being said, words don't mean anything if actions are not being done.

Our own Kelvin Hunt talked about the offensive and defensive performances from the game. However, I want to focus on a positive from the contest which is kicker Ryan Fitzgerald and punter Alex Mastromanno.

Fitzgerald connected on both of his field goal attempts where the longest kick was 54 yards. The Georgia native has been the most productive offensive weapon for the Seminoles during the 2024 season. The fan base criticized the ability for the kicker in 2022 and now look at him. Poetic justice at its finest as he is 6/6 on attempts this season (please don't jinx it). I love this for Ryan Fitzgerald.

You don't want to highlight punters because that means that the offense has struggled to move the football at times. However, the Australian punter Alex Mastromanno has been tremendous for the Seminoles. During the Memphis game, he had four punts where he averaged 49.5 yards per game with 55 yards being the longest where he consistently flipped the field for this team.

One thing that has been consistent for this program under Norvell has been that this football team has invested so much into the special teams aspect of this squad. We can keep listing negatives (totally fair to do so) but Fitzgerald and Mastromanno deserve their flowers.
