It all starts with head football coach Mike Norvell for the turnaround in Tallahassee
Florida State fans are still frustrated over the performance versus Georgia Tech on Saturday. Honestly, the fan base has every right to be upset after the squad looked outmatched against a Yellow Jackets team that finished 7-6 last season.
This was supposed to be a pivotal moment for the Seminoles' football team in head football coach Mike Norvell's fifth season at Florida State after they accomplished an undefeated regular season and conference championship in 2023.
While the 2024 version wasn't expected to be better than 2023, they were projected to win the conference and had an over/under win total of 9.5 (which would have been good enough to make it to the College Football Playoff).
I do not like pointing the fingers at the players on the team. The truth of the matter is that the coaches put them in a position to be successful. There were many instances where they looked lackadaisical.
As I look at it, it starts with the leader: Head football coach Mike Norvell.
I am not suggesting that there needs to be a change at the top (far from it, actually).
Norvell emphasizes to his football team all the time that they have to find ways to respond to adversity effectively. This is not the result that this squad wanted (obviously). How can they pick themselves up in this moment? This was a team that Norvell was supremely confident in their abilities.
Florida State is not a stranger to this as some of the members of the team had to endure the 2021 loss to FCS opponent Jacksonville State and an 0-4 start. Most people act like the sky is falling in Tallahassee. Even though it was a horrific performance, the Seminoles still have an opportunity to get better.
I see so many people blame it on the quarterback, lack of running game, wide receivers, offensive line, defensive line, linebackers, etc. It all starts with Mike Norvell and I am confident in his ability to get his team going as they host Boston College on Labor Day night in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium.
