FSU softball: Major takeaways from Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational
By Kelvin Hunt
The moment wasn't too big for most of the freshmen.
Isa Torres and Jaysoni Beachum have had success in big moments early on. Torres is batting .444 with a .483 on-base percentage. She's made some nice plays on defense but has committed two errors. However, I think the small sample size is promising. Beachum is batting .522 with a .593 on-base percentage. Beachum has yet to strike out and hasn't made an error on defense.
She rarely swings at pitches out of the strike zone and has a veteran approach in the batter's box. Ashtyn Danley showed some flashes on the mound of what she's capable of against good competition. It's going to take some time to continue building her confidence as she gains experience. She was the No. 2 player nationally for a reason, and I expect Coach Alameda to find a way to get the talent to perform.
Freshman Mimi Gooden has been solid on the mound through nine innings. She must cut down on the walks (4) and hit batters (2), but hitters are only hitting .250 against her.
