Pitching

Ashtyn Danley and Makenna Reid continue to shoulder the pitching load in conference play. These were the two pitchers I knew FSU needed to progress rapidly if they wanted to have a strong season and compete for the ACC Championship again. Danley has matured and showing signs of becoming an excellent pitcher before leaving Tallahassee. Reid has settled in nicely after a rough start to the season when she felt the pressure to replace Kathryn Sandercock as the ace. She's recovered nicely over the past 3-4 weeks and has been consistent.

Danley pitched 11 innings, allowing 10 hits, and one walk, and had eight strikeouts. Reid pitched seven innings, allowing 11 hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Four walks in 18 innings will work fine, but I'd like to see fewer hits allowed. That's where they got in trouble earlier in the year, walking way more batters and then allowing hits that do damage. The defense has been good enough to limit the damage, although they allowed more than one hit per inning on average. Emma Wilson chipped in with 1.1 innings on Sunday. Danley and Reid could have the makings of an incredible duo over the next two years should they continue to progress and expand their repertoire.
