WR LAWAYNE MCCOY

Florida State's coaching staff put true freshman wide receiver Lawayne McCoy as the starting punt returner in the game versus Memphis. Unfortunately, McCoy had a muffed punt return where his own teammate ran into him which caused the fumble.

The former four-star prospect was a young player who the staff was excited about. He was an early enrollee but dealt with some minor injuries.

The wide receiver room has been nothing special so far through three games this season. This could be the spark that the Seminoles need in the position unit to hopefully help DJ Uiagalelei get more comfortable in the scheme.

Lawayne McCoy is very young and probably has not fully understood the playbook. However, I hope this could be time for McCoy to get playing time at receiver and not just at punt return (which I know special teams are important to the staff).
