FSU football: Will true freshman running back Kam Davis be wearing No. 3 next year?
FSU football had a successful 2024 recruiting class where they acquired several highly-touted prospects for the future foundation of the program.
While I realize that much of the discussion has been centered around the Seminoles' ability to land high-quality transfers via the portal (sorry Alabama...), the coaching staff should be proud of how they have constructed their top-ten recruiting class.
Even with missing prospects during the Early Signing Period such as five-star safety KJ Bolden (Georgia), five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State), and five-star defensive lineman LJ McCray (Florida), Florida State still picking up elite prospects such as four-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, four-star running back Kameron Davis, four-star cornerback Charles Lester III, among others.
Speaking of Davis, this was a running back that the Seminoles were super excited to acquire. He played quarterback for his high school football in Albany (GA). However, Florida State's coaching recruited him as a running back. If you ever see Davis in person, he is built like a freight train.
He is listed at 5'10" and 200 pounds and looks like he is already ready to take collegiate snaps right now. Originally, I thought that there was an opportunity for Davis to play in his true freshman season given that the Seminoles lost Trey Benson to the NFL as well as CJ Campbell Jr. and Rodney Hill to the transfer portal.
However, Florida State ended up picking up Alabama senior running back Roydell Williams and Indiana junior running back Jaylin Lucas via the transfer portal. As a result, the running back rotation will likely be a combination of Roydell Williams, Lawrence Toafili, Jaylin Lucas, and Caziah Holmes while players such as Kameron Davis, Micahi Danzy, and Samuel Singleton Jr. develop.
Fans are anticipating an exciting 2024 season for Florida State after finishing the regular season with an undefeated record and an ACC championship. One individual asked Davis what jersey number he would be wearing in 2024 and he responded with "3".
This would be an incredible opportunity for Davis to follow in the footsteps of great Seminole running backs who wore the number three jersey such as Trey Benson, Cam Akers, and Leon Washington. It would be awesome to see a true freshman wear one of the single-digit jersey numbers.
