Coaching

Shawn Murphy appeared in 18 games while at Alabama. He played in five as a freshman in 2022 and 13 as a redshirt freshman in 2023 and will have three years of eligibility remaining. Why were his two years at Alabama important? Alabama isn't somewhere you go to play without getting developed. It's either you get developed as you wait your turn behind talented players, or you find yourself off the team. Murphy's lack of production doesn't concern me because I know he got a ton of reps while at practice the last two years.

Also, his journey looks eerily similar to FSU linebacker Kalen DeLoach. DeLoach appeared in 17 games in his first two years, while not receiving great coaching his first year under Raymond Woodie. Once he got adequate coaching under Chris Marve for one season before working with Randy Shannon the final two seasons? He went from seven total tackles in 2020 to 69 in 2021, 65 in 2022, and 68 in 2023.
