FSU football: Why isn't FSU a top 10 team post-2024 spring?
By Kelvin Hunt
It's early May and several months away from FSU football opening the 2024 season in Ireland against Georgia Tech. However, that hasn't stopped analysts from giving their projections for 2024 despite the potential for rosters to change between now and August. The 2024 NFL Draft demonstrated how talented the 2023 FSU team was, with 10 draftees and three more signing at UDFAs. However, I pointed out how FSU could have 10+ more players drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. There's no shortage of talent in Tallahassee, not to mention they enrolled one of the top winter transfer portal classes and have already gone through spring camp. There are a few questions surrounding the program, mainly who's going to fit where, but FSU has many experienced players on its 2024 roster. There are returning players in every major unit, so why are folks so hesitant to put FSU in their way too early top 10 lists?
It's not like there are not several teams with big question marks. Alabama has an entirely new coaching staff and had a mass exodus of players from their roster. Penn State will have a new quarterback and was not anywhere close to elite last year. Michigan will have a new head coach and several new players from last year's team. Utah at No. 6? I know they didn't have their starting QB last year, but they probably need to show it on the field before crowning them as some elite team after going 8-5 last year. I understand why most of the other schools are in the top 10. They have a lot of talent, continuity, and key positions and were good teams last year. I know it doesn't mean anything, and it's one opinion, but I don't understand how someone could have Utah, Penn State, or Alabama ahead of FSU.
