FSU football: Running list of players opting out of Orange Bowl
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football fans have been in limbo since the Noles won the ACC Championship and got snubbed by the College Football Committee fewer than 12 hours later. FSU went from potentially one win away from playing for a National Championship to playing in the Orange Bowl, which frankly means nothing now. The main goal many players chose to return in 2023 was snatched away, which changed everything.
We expected opt-outs to happen once the players got robbed of the opportunity to continue their quest. Some players have already announced plans to enter the transfer portal, and others have announced they will declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. I know some fans wonder which players will play in the Orange Bowl. It'll likely feature many young players and some reserve players moving into starting roles. It'll be a great opportunity to begin competing for starting jobs going into spring practice. Here's a running list of players that have opted out of the Orange Bowl:
1. Johnny Wilson

A few others have entered or plan to enter the transfer portal. A running tracker of transfer portal guys can be found here. There are other players yet to announce their plans like Jared Verse and Keon Coleman. I fully expect those two to opt out and enter the NFL Draft. We'll see what Renardo Green, Akeem Dent, Tatum Bethune, Kalen DeLoach, and Fentrell Cypress decide soon. That's a lot of starters, though Cypress has another year of eligibility remaining. A couple of these guys MIGHT decide to play in the game. We'll have a better idea once Mike Norvell speaks with the media after practice this week. Stay tuned to ChopChat for more news and analysis!
