FSU football: Explaining where Noles are with transfer portal recruiting
By Kelvin Hunt
Teams Adding a Ton of Players Now Have Major Roster Holes
I mentioned that FSU did almost all of its damage in the winter transfer portal window and the benefits of it. There have been a ton of teams that have been in hot pursuit of a ton of transfer portal players in the spring window. That tells me a few things:
- The top players available in the winter window were not interested in these programs, or the players they added in the spring were not high-quality players.
- The high school players they were counting on to develop were not who they thought they were.
- These teams will overpay for mediocre players because they are desperate.
None of these instances are positive signs. It tells me those coaching staff are not great at evaluations and player development. It also tells me they are not great at roster management. When a team adds transfer portal players in the spring, and they leave after one semester without playing in a game? That tells me there are many underlying issues with those programs. The good news is that FSU isn't one of these programs. FSU keeps the players that want to keep and rarely miss on their transfer portal evaluations. It's why there hasn't been major pressure to add players just to add them after spring camp. As I always say, trust the coaching staff. They know what they're doing.
