LB JUSTIN CRYER

Florida State had to replace its two leaders at the linebacker position in Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune, who navigated over to the NFL. These two former Seminoles were the top two tacklers from a season ago.

It seemed like the coaching staff wouldn't value the linebacker position. Fans have been critical of the recruiting for the position in general. However, there is still some talented pieces on the roster.

The Seminoles were able to secure the likes of veteran DJ Lundy after he initially committed to Colorado. It was massive to have Lundy return to Tallahassee for his final season as he was the most experienced linebacker in the Seminoles' defensive scheme.

Florida State added Auburn's Cam Riley and Alabama's Shawn Murphy via the transfer portal this offseason. However, the Seminoles also had pieces such as Justin Cryer, Blake Nichelson, and Omar Graham Jr.

One player that I think will continue to get better opportunities is Justin Cryer. The former Northwestern transfer did not play any defensive snaps in the opener versus Georgia Tech. Fans were wondering what happened to Cryer. However, during the Boston College, he made his impact felt as he recorded five total tackles. I expect his role to continue to get bigger through the season.
