Better Running Back Play

I love Trey Benson. He was the most electric running back at FSU since Dalvin Cook, who energized fans with his blazing speed to break off long touchdown runs. He had long touchdown runs in several games during his FSU career. However, he was often boom or bust. For every long touchdown run, he likely had 15-20 carries that didn't maximize the lanes created by the offensive line. His vision wasn't the best, and Benson often missed running lanes or failed to show the patience for running lanes to develop.

The 2023 game against Florida was Trey Benson, in a nutshell, making several terrible decisions but then ripping off a long touchdown run. The stable of running backs FSU will have in 2024 will benefit from playing behind a better offensive line. However, I think Roydell Williams and others probably have better vision than Trey Benson. Will they break off long touchdown runs? Probably, not runs as long as Benson, but I think the down-to-down yardage will be better this year than last year. That means more manageable second and third downs, which ultimately means higher conversions on third down. Higher third-down conversions mean more score drives.
