Conrad Hussey-Safety

The safety position feels similar to linebacker in there's one guy who's a sure starter(Shyheim Brown), but question marks on who'll be the guy to start in the other position. It'll likely come down to Devontae Brown, Conrad Hussey, or Ashlynd Barker. The guy with the highest ceiling is likely Hussey since he's the guy the coaching staff tried to fast-track on the field as a freshman last season. He had some bright moments but also had some freshman situations where he looked lost out there. If you want to know the importance of the safety position, just look at the defense when Akeem Dent went down with his injury.

It was noticeably different and not as effective against the run or the pass. FSU needs someone to take Dent's spot in the lineup. I don't think anyone can replace his experience, but someone has to plug that hole well enough that the spot isn't a liability like it was when he was out last year. The best-case scenario is Hussey taking that next step. We saw a noticeable jump from Shyheim Brown between his first and second seasons, so this fall could be big for Hussey to continue closing that gap.
