FSU football: 5 players who could become difference makers with strong 2024 fall camp
By Kelvin Hunt
Jackson West-TE
I don't expect Jackson West to have 30 receptions for 400 yards and five touchdowns. Frankly, I'll be happy when he catches his first pass in an FSU uniform. However, West appears on this list from a depth perspective. Kyle Morlock is the most experienced tight end on the roster, and he only has one year in the offensive scheme. West did play some significant snaps towards the end of the season and has shown the willingness to block and do the dirty work. Morlock was fairly durable, transitioning from DII to the Power Five.
However, God forbid he go down with an injury. That's where the value of having a capable Jackson West skyrockets. If West isn't a guy who takes the next step, that means FSU will likely rely on freshman Landen Thomas and Brian Courtney. Thomas is the future, but that's too much of a load to carry for a freshman. Courtney has outstanding physical attributes, but I wouldn't want to rely on him to be the guy. West has been at FSU long enough that it's time to make an impact, and they could use him big time this year with how the transfer room looks from a depth perspective.
