Malik Benson

Malik Benson was the receiver the coaches got from the transfer portal to be the No. 1 receiver in 2024, and he only had two targets in the first half for two receptions and 10 yards. Benson didn't get his third target until FSU's second possession in the third quarter with 7:05 remaining. However, he got four targets on FSU's final possession, resulting in a touchdown. He had two receptions for 29 yards, and both were huge catches on third and 10, and fourth and 8 to move the chains.

If Benson's the No. 1 receiver, why did it take so long to get him involved in the offense when Georgia Tech was dead set on stopping the run? Benson didn't come to FSU to barely touch the ball in the first half. He has elite speed, and the routes they went to him on in the first half didn't maximize that aspect. I think they went deep with him once, and that's something they need to do more often to soften up defenses.
