FSU football: 5 defensive players who should play more against Boston College
By Kelvin Hunt
Conrad Hussey-Safety
Veteran defensive back Devontae Brown came from Miami to provide depth and experience, but Saturday against Georgia Tech wasn't one of his better showings. FSU played two high safeties to avoid getting beat deep. Shyheim Brown led all tacklers with 13, and Brown had four. However, Brown (No. 22) had some notable mishaps, like the one below where he whiffs on a tackle.
That's unacceptable, and Brown seemed to shy away from the physicality needed to play downhill against the run. Sophomore Conrad Hussey is someone FSU tried to fast-track last year and showed flashes. He's also a better athlete than Brown. I think the staff is concerned with Hussey playing inconsistently and giving up the big play through the air. However, I'm willing to roll the dice on playing someone who's going to play like their life's on the line than someone who doesn't want to make a tackle.
