WIDE RECEIVER ROOM

Florida State saw its top two pass catchers 6'7" Johnny Wilson and 6'4" Keon Coleman navigate to the NFL. The Seminoles were able to rely on those playmakers from a season ago. It seemed like whenever things were difficult, they were always able to throw it up to them so that they could make a play.

Florida State welcomed in Alabama's Malik Benson and LSU's Jalen Brown via the transfer portal this offseason. However, both of them did not have much production in 2023 as Benson recorded 162 yards and one touchdown with the Crimson Tide while Brown did not even record a statistic with the Tigers.

The Seminoles need an answer at wide receiver as the top option was slot wide receiver Ja'Khi Douglas who had four catches for 55 yards. Head football coach Mike Norvell was asked in a media session about Florida State's lack of downfield passing and Norvell explained that they needed to do a better job of putting their playmaker in position to make plays.

Could this be the opportunity to put true freshman wide receivers Elijah Moore and/or Lawayne McCoy in the contest? We saw a younger option such as true freshman running back Kameron Davis get playing time even in a crowded room. Moore and McCoy both impressed during fall camp.

The wide receivers need to find a way to emerge in a big way.
