FSU football: 3 thoughts on the Seminoles' projected depth chart vs Boston College
CONRAD HUSSEY IS STARTING AT SAFETY
Florida State football is having to replace veteran Akeem Dent, who was classified as the quarterback of the defense last year. This was a tough pill to swallow for a defense that needed his leadership.
Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has shown his ability to develop as well as recruit at the position. There was a battle going on at free safety between redshirt senior Davonte Brown and sophomore Conrad Hussey.
Brown struggled during his time with the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes as a cornerback. However, the Seminoles brought him in this offseason with full intentions of playing him as a safety. During the Georgia Tech contest, fans saw Brown struggle at the new position.
There were also moments where Hussey had lapses in coverage. However, the coaching staff must have liked the upside of the sophomore's skill set better to have him in the starting lineup. It also helps that you saw the former St. Thomas Aquinas High School standout starting at safety during the last defensive possession.
