FSU football: 3 thoughts on FSU coaches receiving contract extensions

Continuity
Many outsiders wanted to question team culture when many of the star players opted out of the Orange Bowl, neglecting the fact nearly all those players elected to play in the Cheez-It Bowl for the opportunity to win 10 games for the first time since 2016. Several players put off their NFL dreams to come back and pursue a National Title in 2023. When that opportunity got taken away, there was nothing else to attempt to prove. FSU will lose a lot of talent from its roster, and there'll be many new faces looking to move into contributing roles. Was it the right time to move on from coaches like Randy Shannon, Odell Haggins, and John Paphuchis?
These are the coaches most FSU fans have issues with, mostly with how they fail to sign top talent from the high school ranks (more on that later). Shannon and Haggins are in their late fifties and probably better at developing players than recruiting high school players. However, they have a great understanding of what Norvell wants overall and know what Adam Fuller wants in his defensive scheme. FSU fielded one of the best defenses in college football in 2023. Whatever you gain from a recruiting standpoint from new coaches might be offset by the collective experience they'd lose from working together the last few seasons. How much would a poor product offset what you're selling to transfer portal guys and high school players if you're a newly hired coach?
