California's Defense Good or Lucky?

California's only allowing 12.3 points per game and 4.44 yards per play. Auburn managed 5 yards per play and was 5 of 10 on third downs. However, they turned the ball over five times, four interceptions and a fumble lost. They still managed to score 21 points and averaged four yards per rush.

California has three sacks and five tackles for a loss, with two passes defended. Almost all of that production came from one player, linebacker Teddye Buchanan. Buchanan is a transfer from UC Davis.

California is +8 in turnover margin through three games. That's not a sustainable pace, and every game has been within a one-score possession at halftime.

While FSU turned the ball over three times against Memphis in their last game, they have generally been solid avoiding turnovers. One came on special teams, another came on a throw as DJ Uiagalelei got hit, and the other when a Memphis player put his helmet on the football as he made a tackle. Again, FSU's defense kept FSU in the game.
