FSU football: 3 reasons I'm confident in wide receiver unit for 2024
By Kelvin Hunt
Talent and Depth at Receiver
Many pundits didn't think FSU had any talent at the receiver position in 2022, despite Johnny Wilson and Mycah Pittman being top 100 players coming out of high school. I knew Wilson could be an NFL guy if he stayed healthy, and that came to fruition earlier this spring. In hindsight, there wasn't another receiver who made it to the NFL from that team. However, they all knew their roles well and the passing offense attacked all areas of the field. The 2024 receiving unit has much more talent. Malik Benson was the No. 1 JUCO player, Hykeem Williams was a former five-star receiver, Jalen Brown was a former top 100 player, and Ja'Khi Douglas was a former blue-chip recruit.
Veteran receivers Kentron Poitier, Darion Williamson, and Deuce Spann will compete for snaps. The combination of overall size and speed destroys what the Noles had going into 2022. That's six guys who are 6'2 and up with four having elite speed. Also, tight-end Kyle Morlock probably has more upside than Camren McDonald from 2022. Jaylin Lucas has elite speed, not to mention the running backs will play a part in the passing game, and all of them can catch well.
