FSU football: 3 major takeaways from first 2024 fall camp scrimmage

Defensive Line Depth
We knew FSU had two of the better defensive tackles in the ACC going into fall camp with Joshua Farmer and Darrell Jackson. We knew Grady Kelly was at least serviceable depth, coming to FSU from Colorado State as a former freshman All-American. However, beyond that were hopes and prayers that players like Daniel Lyons and KJ Sampson would continue to develop and transfer Tomiwa Durojaiye would transition well from the defensive end position he played at West Virginia.
The four players behind Farmer and Jackson likely got a lot of snaps in the situational scrimmage, which prompted FSU Defensive Coordinator Adam Fuller to say he believes they have six defensive tackles that will help the team right now. That was music to my ears for the 2024 season and beyond because FSU will lose its two starters after this season. I still expect FSU may play those two starters slightly more than last year, but it's great knowing they will likely still rotate a ton to keep those guys fresh. Fuller said the execution was good overall, but they had too many missed tackles and penalties. I'm not surprised by the missed tackles since they hardly tackle in practice and it was the first scrimmage. The penalties don't surprise either because there were lots of young guys on the field.
