Parting Thoughts

Interestingly enough, the FSU defense allowed fewer explosive plays in 2022, allowing 4.85 yards per play. They allowed four fewer red zone trips(played in one less game) and were better against the run (3.96 yards per carry allowed). However, they didn't generate as many sacks and tackles for a loss, nor were they as good against the pass. If we remove the Orange Bowl, I think the 2023 defense would be in the same general area in yards per play and against the rush.

FSU has the talent to be on par and maybe even better than the last two years on defense. Adam Fuller has a better sense of what his team can do and more experience to draw from regarding the past two successful seasons. FSU seemed to time their blitzes better, and they were more fruitful than in past years. That comes from players having experience in the system and understanding what's trying to be accomplished. Will FSU have the same success in 2024? It'll depend on how quickly the new faces understand everything and work together as a unit.
