FSU football: 3 keys to victory for Noles against California Bears
By Kelvin Hunt
Offensive Success Early
FSU hasn't started a game fast on offense since its opening drive against Georgia Tech. They fumbled on their first possession against Memphis last week and only ran six plays in the first quarter against Boston College. This FSU offense needs to gain some confidence, and nothing would do that more than scoring a touchdown or getting points on its first couple of possessions.
The FSU offense getting off to a fast start would likely breathe new energy into an FSU defense that's been on the field way too much. If the defense feels the offense can score, they'll likely give an even better effort. Playing well is contagious, and the Noles haven't played together in all three phases yet. It would get the fans more hyped and keep them engaged. It's a night game, and the atmosphere should still be electric despite the poor start to the season. All those elements, and California likely expecting FSU not to get off to a good start could catch the Bears off guard.
If FSU gets off to a fast start, I wouldn't be surprised to see them look similar to the team we thought they would be in the preseason. It's all about finding that confidence.
