Defensive Line Depth Is A Strength. How Much Better Is It Than 2022?

One of the first things I started comparing to the 2022 team was defensive line depth. The lack of depth in that position is one of the major reasons FSU lost two games that year. Fabien Lovett getting hurt against LSU was a major blow. Jared Verse getting hurt against Louisville was impactful, although he continued to play at a high level. Lovett was a good player, but one guy missing shouldn't have that much impact on a top team. FSU goes into the 2024 season with more proven depth at defensive tackle and the defensive end position. Joshua Farmer and Darrell Jackson.

I'd take that duo over Lovett and Robert Cooper. I also like Grady Kelly, Daniel Lyons, Tomiwa Durojaiye, and KJ Sampson over what FSU had that season. FSU had literally no proven depth at the defensive end position going into the 2022 season. Derrick McLendon was the most experienced defensive end FSU had going into 2022. Patrick Payton was coming off a redshirt season, and Jared Verse wasn't what he became yet. Byron Turner Jr. hadn't shown he could be a factor yet. FSU will have Payton, Sione Lolohea, Marvin Jones Jr., Turner Jr., Aaron Hester, Jaden Jones, Dante Anderson, and Lamont Green Jr. Payton and Lolohea are All-Conference guys and MJJ might be the most talented player in the bunch. I think this year's defensive line could be much better than in 2022.
