FSU football: 10 big things that will define 2024 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Running Game
The FSU running game was boom or bust with Trey Benson in 2023. Benson could break long touchdown runs but struggled with seeing cutback lanes and failing to maximize rushing attempts a lot of the time. The absence of Jordan Travis using his legs most of the season helped negate FSU's run game too. It's why they struggled to put points on the board for large stretches. Quarterback DJ Uiagalalei will be willing to use his legs, so that'll be a difference.
FSU running backs Roydell Williams, Caziah Holmes, and Lawrance Toafili have good vision and should maximize their rushing attempts better than Benson. However, they will likely not have the home run ability Benson had. If the FSU running game is effective, similar to the second half of 2022? It'll open up the offense tremendously. It'll force opposing defenses to put more guys in the box, which will open the passing game. It'll also allow FSU to put some defenders in conflict with guys who have elite quickness in space. If the FSU offense can make teams pick their poison? It could be the difference in going 10-2 and 12-0.
