FSU baseball: The anatomy of an ACC sweep over Notre Dame
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball (18-0, 3-0 ACC) went into the weekend undefeated, coming off a big road win over the rival Florida Gators. They entered the weekend facing Link Jarrett's old team from Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish isn't a terrible team, it's hard to sweep teams in conference play, and the Noles have not gotten the deserved respect for the best start in college baseball. However, a letdown loss in the conference opener after beating Florida wouldn't have been a good look. Once FSU blasted Notre Dame in the first game, I think that's when the thoughts of getting a sweep realistically came into my mind.
I was confident in Jamie Arnold and Conner Whittaker, and the offense has been among the best nationally. If there were questions, it was mostly about the bullpen. Arnold mowed Notre Dame down, and Conner Whittaker did what Whit does on Sunday, and the bullpen did their job. As well as the Noles played, it still wasn't an easy task to obtain the sweep. Notre Dame had some bad losses coming into the series, but they have some arm talent and power at the plate. If you wondered how well FSU played, I have it all here.
Defense
FSU committed ZERO errors in the three-game series and made several above-average plays. The Noles completed two double-plays late that were huge in the 4-3 win on Sunday. FSU's fielding percentage is up to .984
