FSU baseball: Impact of Noles sweeping Miami and winning State Championship
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball (30-5, 10-5 ACC) defeated the Miami Hurricanes 6-4 Saturday afternoon to complete the series sweep. The win gave FSU sports a complete sweep against Miami in football, basketball, and baseball in the past calendar year. It also gave the Noles the State Championship in baseball since the Noles also swept their season series against the rival Florida Gators. That feat hasn't happened since 1960, and it's a testament to how far Link Jarrett has brought this FSU program in less than two seasons. Miami is well below .500 this season, and Florida is flirting with falling below the .500 mark after competing for a National Title last season. Does FSU sweeping both rivals do much for the Noles? I think it has to be something Link Jarrett and the coaching staff can sell on the recruiting trail. That goes for the high school ranks as the transfer portal. After all, the latter is where Link Jarrett got a ton of help to turn this program around. I think the staff can sell the turnaround itself, and how much some of the players from last year have progressed under the new coaching staff.
James Tibbs, Cam Smith, and Jaime Ferrer have already surpassed or are on pace to surpass all their numbers from last season. Link Jarrett has made it a point to mention the coaching staff has been working hard on the recruiting trails lately, and the way the team has performed has to be something the recruits have taken note of. The coaching staff has an eye for talent, as nearly all of their takes from the transfer portal have been massive hits. However, it hasn't stopped there, as some guys they inherited from the previous staff have shown things they never showed back then. I was one of the first to mention how Link Jarrett's journey has mirrored Mike Norvell's at FSU. This domination of rivals after getting smoked in his first year tells me this trajectory will continue for FSU, and it starts with acquiring more talent in recruiting by their performance on the field.
