FSU baseball: Former Noles pitchers look to make a difference in MLB Playoffs
By Cole Kruger
Former Seminole pitchers will look to produce for their teams as they gear up for October baseball. Luke Weaver, Cole Ragans, and DL Hall will all look to provide quality pitching for the respective teams as the former Noles found success in the 2024 regular season.
Yankees relief pitcher Luke Weaver played baseball in Tallahassee from 2012-2014. In the 2013 season, Weaver threw 98 innings, with a 2.29 ERA, and followed that up with a 2.62 ERA in 2014. Over Weaver's time at Florida State, he held a 16-6 record as a starting pitcher. Weaver moved to the bullpen for the first time this year, and in his first season with the Yankees, he became the first relief pitcher to strike out 100 batters since 2018.
Former Nole Cole Ragans is one of the best-starting pitchers in the league for the Kansas City Royals. Ragans came out of FSU in 2016 and drafted in the first round by the Royals. This season, Ragans made the All-Star game for the first time in his career, posted a 3.14 ERA, and helped push the Royals to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
Brewers pitcher DL Hall is another former Seminole who produced quality pitching for his team this season and will expected to eat innings in the playoffs. Hall was another first-round selection produced by FSU in 2017 and made his MLB debut with the Orioles in 2022. This is Hall's first season in Milwaukee, as he spent most of the season on the injured list but will be fully healthy for the Brewer's playoff run.
The FSU pitching pipeline will finally show their talents on baseball's biggest stage. Ragans will start game one of the Royals Wild Card series on Tuesday, as he will face off against Corbin Burnes. We'll see DL Hall in relief this week as the Brewers will play in a Wild Card series. As for Luke Weaver, we will have to wait to see him, as the Yankees have a first-round bye.
