FSU baseball: Could Noles benefit from Texas A&M head coach leaving?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball was among the four final teams remaining in the Men's College World Series, losing to eventual champion Tennessee. The Noles had the offense but lacked the pitching depth coming out of the loser's bracket to beat Tennessee twice to make the MCWS finals to face Texas A&M. FSU will return several key pitchers and have commitments from several JUCO and transfer portal players. However, there's still a need for power bats and arms if they become available, and something shocking happened on Tuesday that could crack open a door. Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle reportedly will leave to take the Texas Longhorns head coaching job. This news comes after taking the Aggies to within one win of the National Title. A&M was one of the most complete teams in college baseball, with excellent pitching and an offense to boot.
Many of their top players were seniors or eligible for the 2024 MLB Draft. However, a few young guys may enter the transfer portal if they don't follow Schlossnagle to Texas. The way it looks like he's leaving A&M, I doubt many would do that. A&M's roster consists mostly of guys from Texas and California, with a few midwest guys. I wonder how attractive FSU would be to those who enter the portal or if Link Jarrett would show interest. FSU desperately needs power in the lineup with the expected departure of nearly 50 percent of its home runs. Gavin Grahovac and Caden Sorrell were freshmen hitting .275+ with 11+ home runs this season. They have a slew of pitchers who redshirted or pitched sparingly in 2024. FSU pitching coach Micah Posey coached at Dallas Baptist before coming to FSU and likely has ties to some of those Texas players. Hopefully, this will be something to keep an eye on.
