FSU baseball: 5 major takeaways from 2024 season

Power Surge and Offensive Development
I wrote to expect a surge in power from the 2023 season. It was evident all of FSU's best hitters were freshmen or sophomores in 2023, and all were returning for the 2024 season. FSU went from hitting 55 home runs in 2023 to 131 in 2024. The doubles went from 108 to 138, and the slugging percentage went from .438 to .558. The on-base percentage went from .349 to .412, and the batting average went from .276 to .315. What's even more impressive? FSU increased in all of those power categories and the others but struck out significantly less.
FSU struck out 474 times in 1,878 at-bats in 2023(25.2 percent) and decreased to 470 in 2,317 in 2024 (20.2 percent). That's outstanding for a team with such an aggressive approach at the plate. Those players who were freshmen and sophomores last year contributed the most to these numbers. However, transfers like Max Williams, Marco Dinges, and Daniel Cantu were major contributors. Major credit must go to the players and the coaching staff to fine-tune their approach compared to what we saw from FSU hitters a few years ago.
