Starting Pitching

Jamie Arnold has been one of the best pitchers in college baseball all season. Still, the emergence of Carson Dorsey has been the difference-maker for FSU, amid injuries to Cam Leiter and Conner Whittaker. Dorsey went 5.1 innings against UConn in game one, which helped shorten the game for an FSU bullpen that doesn't have much depth. FSU only used four pitchers from its bullpen and nobody threw more than 22 pitches in relief. That meant they could have been available for game two if needed, and FSU chose to use two of those guys again.

Jamie Arnold only went 5.1 innings in game two but didn't get much help from his defense, which cost him at least 25 extra pitches. However, it was deep enough in the contest that FSU only had to use four pitchers from its bullpen. The decison to use Conner Whittaker in game two was a major gamble by Link Jarrett, but it paid off, as he would have been the likely starter in game three. If FSU continues to get 5+ innings from its starting pitchers, Link Jarrett seems to have a set formula on who to use from the bullpen.
