Could Lawrance Toafili and Kameron Davis be the solution to the rushing woes?
Florida State football released its projected depth chart on Monday, where the noticeable changes included Kameron Davis being listed as a starting running back, Roydell Williams not being part of the rotation, and Earl Little Jr. being logged as a safety.
The Seminoles' running game has been abysmal this season. The fan base thought it would be a strength of the Florida State team after ultra-talented Trey Benson accumulated 1,800+ rushing yards and 23 touchdowns during his two years in Tallahassee.
Florida State added two running backs in the transfer portal this offseason: Alabama's Roydell Williams and Indiana's Jaylin Lucas.
When it rains, it pours for the Seminoles... The bad luck continues for Florida State as Lucas was already ruled out for the entire 2024 campaign with a season-ending injury he suffered against Boston College. Then on Monday afternoon, Norvell announced that Williams would be potentially out for an extended time.
That is heartbreaking to hear for two talented athletes that are trying to make their mark at Florida State. I hope that they bounce back hugely.
During the Seminoles' massive victory versus California, the rushing attack was led by veteran Lawrance Toafili and youngster Kameron Davis. The dynamic duo was viewed as thunder (Davis) and lightning (Toafili).
Toafili had 17 carries for 80 yards and one touchdown, while Davis had seven carries for 25 yards. Running backs coach David Johnson always emphasizes the importance of the players in that position group to be ready for their moment when the opportunity presents itself.
The rushing attack is still ranked 130th in the FBS (out of 133 teams) with 65.8 rushing yards per game. However, maybe the change of runners could allow the Seminoles to find a rhythm to hopefully give the offense a major spark to build on for the rest of the season.
