MARVIN JONES JR.

Just like Jordan Travis, the Seminoles' defensive unit will have to replace an ultra-productive player. The former Albany transfer made his presence felt during his two-year playing career with Florida State where he recorded 18 total sacks.

Fans realize how important a position that defensive ends are. Elite pass rushers can impact a football game by applying heavy pressure to an opposing signal caller. While Verse did that consistently during his time in Tallahassee, Florida State has to find a way to replace that production.

The Seminoles do have the highly-skilled Patrick Payton who had a remarkable 2023 campaign and is getting better and better as he develops. However, the other side of the defensive end needs to be replaced with Jared Verse gone to the NFL and Gilber Edmond to the transfer portal.

The coaching staff elected to bring on Georgia defensive end transfer Marvin Jones Jr. (son of legendary former Florida State linebacker Marvin Jones Sr.). Fans were salivating over potentially acquiring him in the 2022 recruiting cycle. However, the former five-star prospect chose to commit to the Bulldogs.

As I always say, recruiting is ever-changing, and is never a bad idea to develop those relationships and keep them even if a prospect does not choose your school the first time around. That is what happened with Jones Jr. I cannot wait to see the talented defender create havoc for an opposing quarterback.
