QB THOMAS CASTELLANOS
What an up-and-down roller coaster ride that it has been for quarterback Thomas Castellanos. The former UCF and Boston College transfer was brought in to be a dual-threat option that offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn could utilize for his unit.
However, he had suffered the ankle injury versus Kent State earlier in the year that has hampered his ability to run and a potential concussion (wasn't confirmed) after the scary hit in the fourth quarter of the last game against Stanford.
Over the past couple of games, Castellanos hasn't looked comfortable at all with running the football and look like he is hesitant when he does it. There were contests where the signal-caller is throwing over 35 times per game, which is not where he is at his best.
The offense pretty much scrapped its game plan after the running game with the backs gets bottled up because Castellanos wasn't comfortable to run. This made the fan base want to insert true freshman Kevin Sperry into the lineup, since he isn't afraid to run.
With that said, Castellanos had a fine performance against the Demon Deacons, where he completed 12 of his 16 passes for 271 yards and one touchdown through the air, then had 10 carries for 9 yards and one touchdown on the air. There were things that he could improve on, but he gridded out the victory for the Seminoles.
