Pitcher Wes Mendes makes Seminole fans think that the squad is Omaha bound

This is the production that Florida State needs to make it to the College World Series.

Florida State baseball has something to prove after losing to Oregon State on the road in the Super Regionals. This was a disappointing result for the program that had a ton of expectations surrounding it in 2025.

However, head coach Link Jarrett wants to show the fan base that his Seminole team belongs in 2026. Florida State opened up the season with a series victory over James Madison. It is a shame that the Seminoles were rained out of Game 3 to give Dick Howser Stadium another treat.

They did travel to Jacksonville to take on the Dolphins, and Florida State handled their business in eight innings, where they won by a score of 13-3.

Pitcher Wes Mendes had himself a game against the Michigan Wolverines

Florida State played the Michigan Wolverines at noon Eastern time at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Friday. This is a great opportunity for the Seminoles to play away from home and test the team's resilience. It is always stressful when a squad doesn't perform in its home stadium. This will help the Seminoles in postseason play.

Florida State ended up winning the game against Michigan by a score of 6-1. The Wolverines were not a pushover team as they defeated a ranked Oregon State and Arizona team. Michigan had a rematch with the Beavers, but they fell short in extra innings.

Starting pitcher Wes Mendes was dealing in the game, where he completed 5.1 innings and had seven strikeouts, allowing only one hit.

This is the type of performance from Mendes that Florida State needs to make it to the College World Series. The junior from Tampa, Florida, pitched five innings in his last outing against the James Madison Dukes, where he allowed four hits but had seven strikeouts.

Mendes had a 7-3 record last season with a 5.42 earned-run average with 90 strikeouts in 78 innings (according to Seminoles.com). The Seminoles need him to be a consistent Friday starter for them in 2026. Florida State will now play the Auburn Tigers on Saturday, February 21st, at 4:00 PM EST.
