Florida State did not have a good 2024 season, and everyone knows that, even Florida State fans. However, the 2024 season is done and over with, it is time to move on and start looking forward to the 2025 season.
ESPN's radio and TV personality Paul Finebaum, however, doesn't want to let the 2024 season go just yet, and he chose to take a shot at Florida State for absolutely no reason. On his own show, The Paul Finebaum Show, the SEC Network analyst was asked if he thought either Clemson or Florida State would eventually join the SEC after reaching a settlement with the ACC about modifying the league's revenue distribution model and reducing exit penalties for teams who would like to leave before 2036.
Finebaum did not mince words when sharing how he felt about the potential of Florida State joining the SEC at some point in the near future.
"I don't know what the future of Florida State is," Finebaum said. "Other than geographically, I don't think they offer very much."
That seems a bit harsh for a team that has had a lot of success in the last decade and a half. There have been some tough seasons, sure, 2024 is a prime example, but head coach Mike Norvell has shown he can put together a solid team that can compete with other big-name teams.
After a rough season, Norvell knew that changes needed to be made, so he fired both coordinators and brought in experienced coach Gus Malzahn as the offensive coordinator and Tony White as the defensive coordinator.
Since 2010, Florida State has a 21-14 record against SEC teams, giving them a well over a .500 record against what could be considered the strongest conference in college football. The Seminoles have clearly proved they can win against the SEC and simply win in general, they just have to prove it in 2025.
