Mike Norvell issues a Florida State message that will fall on dead ears

The coach continues to make promises he is struggling to keep

Is anyone convinced that Mike Norvell even believes the words coming out of his mouth?

Norvell appeared on Jordan Travis' "Travis Take Two" podcast, which has become a safe space for him, and continued to talk about how FSU football is coming back, and it's being done the right way, etc. etc.

If you heard what Mike Norvell said last year after the Seminoles went 2-10 or a month ago when he had elite confidence or elite expectations or when he was screaming at the top of his lungs during the ACC Kickoff meetings, you've heard these lines as well.

"It's been a challenging last couple of years and I hate it for every Florida State fan," Norvell said. "The challenges we've had to go through, the disappointments, because there have been disappointing results. This is a team, this is a culture built on the right values, with the right people, and we're going to work every single day to represent this program the way it deserves to."

Norvell isn't putting on an act, but it feels that way

For what it's worth, I believe Mike Norvell is genuine in his belief that FSU football will turn things around, but he's lost so much credibility with the FSU fanbase that they have stopped caring. The comments are nice, but they feel empty because the results have been so bad.

It doesn't help that another legion of recruits from the past two classes are leaving the program and, because most of those players don't make an impact anywhere else, it gets chalked up as more recruiting failures. Add that to the fact that Norvell has never landed a top-10 recruiting class and doesn't seem to be competitive when it comes to recruiting the talent that can truly change the fortunes of a program.

FSU fans just want to see more wins

If there's one thing to know about college football fans is that most of them just want to see the baby. They don't care about the labor. Norvell can speak all day about the right values and the right people (although we'll disagree on that part), but if the wins aren't there, no one cares.

Norvell wants us to believe that somehow he's above the fray of college football. That he isn't willing to go to the lengths that another coach might to win a football game and FSU fans should appreciate that about him. But what they would really appreciate is more wins, a bowl game, and maybe consideration for a playoff berth.

When he has the right people in place to accomplish those goals, then his words will be taken seriously again.
