If there's one position that FSU can't and shouldn't stop recruiting, it's edge rushers. Mike Norvell took a ton of them in the 2026 class, but he is going to continue to try to fix the depth issues with numbers.Â
And that search has taken Norvell into one of his old stomping grounds, the Mississippi Delta, with the hopes of pulling out four-star pass rusher Frederrick Ford. The 6-foot-6, 185-pound Ford is the prototype for the JACK position in Tony White's defense. He's long and lengthy with a big frame that will be able to hold some size.
Ford decided to make a spring stop in Tallahassee this past weekend, and it looks like he and his family had a good time.
I’d like to thank @Coach_Norvell and the whole coaching staff for the great visit! @Seminoles @FloridaState @247Sports @adamgorney @CoachReamon @TheUCReport @DemetricDWarren @CoachNickWill @JaleelMcrae @Coach_Knighton @FSUFootball @Seminoles @JustinCrouse7 pic.twitter.com/nhzXoGQu0Q

4-star EDGE Frederrick Ford has FSU in his top four
Getting prospects out of Mississippi is never easy, even with Norvell's ties from his days at Memphis, and FSU is going to have to pull Ford from several interested suitors like Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee. The good news is Ford has already booked an official visit for the summer, and he'll be back in Talllahassee on June 5. His other scheduled official visits are to Tennessee on June 12 and Mississippi State on June 19. It's expected he'll add a visit to Ole Miss and possibly somewhere else.Â
FSU took five pass rushers in this past recruiting cycle. Four of them were high school recruits, so it's unlikely the Seminoles will take more than three in this class. That means that they are able to focus more resources on the Plan A targets at the position, like Ford. There is already one edge rusher committed to FSU in the 2027 class, 3-star Anthony Cavallaro, an in-state prospect.Â
The Seminoles have five commitments in total for the 2027 class and 247Sports has FSU ranked 18th overall. There's a long way to go, however, and Norvell is continuing to bring in top targets this spring to set up summer official visits.
