Mike Norvell needed a commitment and Saturday he got one from three-star athlete JaYon Cooper, a prospect from South Pittsburg, Tennessee that had become a major target for the Seminoles staff over the past several weeks.
Cooper was extended an offer from FSU in mid-February and took a visit to Tallahassse in early March. From there, it seemed like a matter of time before Cooper was going to pull the trigger and give the Seminoles their sixth commitment of the 2027 recruiting cycle.

FSU receives commitment from two-way athlete JaYon Cooper
Cooper is a little bit of a do-everything guy at his high school. He plays quarterback and will line up in the secondary and at wide receiver. FSU has been recruiting him as a corner, but I wouldn't be surprised if they also tried him in the slot to see which side of the ball presents the most upside. The good news is that the staff have awhile to figure out the best way to use him, and usually these kinds of versatile athletes work out well because they can capably perform in different roles.
It's been a couple of months since FSU received its last commitment when in-state edge rusher Anthony Cavallaro made a pledge at the end of December. The Seminoles staff has welcomed a lot of spring visitors over the past few weeks and recently hosted their big "Legacy Weekend" recruiting event.
What's next for FSU's recruiting efforts?
Norvell and company will continue to entertain visitors for the next couple of weeks until the end of spring football. During that time, the Seminoles would love to get a commitment from a quarterback and the hope is that either Chicagoland four-star prospect Jake Nawrot or in-state prospect Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV will be that guy, but there could be other prospects in play.
The Seminoles' class is ranked inside the top 20 by 247Sports, but it needs to be better and there are plenty of time and targets out there to make that happen.
