Florida State baseball (36-15, 17-10 ACC) controls its destiny with one final ACC series remaining in the regular season. They will host the rival Miami Hurricanes (35-15, 15-12 ACC) in a three-game series to attempt to lock up a top-four finish in the ACC and a first-round bye in the ACC Tournament.
FSU won its series on the road against Clemson over the weekend, and Miami won its series at home against the Louisville Cardinals.
This series always has an electric feel, and Dick Howser Stadium will be rocking on Friday and Saturday night with 6 p.m. ET start times. One Miami player who isn’t too familiar with the rivalry made some comments on Monday that will probably add more spice to the series this weekend:
"I don't know nothing about him" 😏

Jake Ogden didn't hesitate stirring the rivalry pot this morning lol pic.twitter.com/GOBN0qz6YY
The two players faced one another last year, so this is a bit of gamesmanship from Ogden.
That’s rich, considering Wed Mendes has won the ACC Pitcher of the Week Award twice and was on several Midseason Watch Lists for Pitcher of the Year. Jake Ogden started his career at Barry University before transferring to UNC-Greensboro(a place Link Jarrett coached at previously), before ultimately finding a home at Miami in his junior year. He has been productive, batting .322, with five home runs and 33 RBI.
Ogden has a .940 fielding percentage at shortstop for the Canes, which isn’t exactly elite. Ogden went 1-2 with an infield single to second base and a walk last year when facing Mendes. Mendes will be looking for a better performance against Miami this year, as he only pitched four innings, allowing six earned runs, four walks, and six strikeouts.
Mendes had three wild pitches and hit three batters. Needless to say, he has been lightyears better this year and arguably the top starting pitcher in the ACC.
Mendes is a guy who allowed his emotions to influence his performance in good and bad ways a year ago. He’s been in control of that in nearly every start this year. Can Miami get his game off? This looks like an early ploy to do just that.
