It was all good for Miami fans 24 hours ago when FSU legacy cornerback Brody Jennings flipped his commitment from Michigan to the Hurricanes instead of FSU.
However, FSU landed the best cornerback in Florida the next day when four-star composite cornerback Chauncey Kennon announced his commitment to the Noles. Some folks may argue Georgia commit Justice Fitzpatrick is better, but he might be getting a recruiting bump because of who his older brother is(Minkah Fitzpatrick)
He's the second cornerback in the class, teaming up with another FSU legacy cornerback, Jay Timmons.
Kennon is the No. 67 player nationally and the No. 8 cornerback, hailing from Sarasota, Florida. Jennings is the No. 277 player nationally and the No. 24 cornerback.
Kennon continues the streak of Patrick Surtain landing blue-chip defensive backs from the Sunshine State. Gregory Thomas, Charles Lester, Jamari Howard, Cai Bates, Ricky Knight, and Edwin Joseph come to mind over the past three recruiting cycles.
Surtain has already produced multiple cornerbacks who have gotten drafted in the third round or better since arriving at FSU before the 2023 season. The Noles took three cornerbacks in the last recruiting cycle and may take one more if they find someone who fits their needs.
FSU beat Florida, Miami, and Georgia for this commitment, which is the highest-ranked player in the class. FSU moves up to No. 11 in the national rankings with 22 commitments and a 68 percent blue-chip ratio.
I wrote how FSU would likely not achieve a top-10 recruiting ranking because a few other schools have fewer commits and more targets remaining on their recruiting board. However, this FSU recruiting class is nothing to sneeze at so far, especially after finishing 2-10 last year. The biggest needs remaining are along the offensive line, the defensive end, and the linebacker position.
Miami may have the higher-ranked class and the better haul on the offensive line so far, but FSU has more quality players across different positions overall.
Welcome to FSU nation Chauncey Kennon!
