FSU FOOTBALL GETS ANOTHER TALENTED DB
There is a reasoning behind individuals suggesting that Florida State is "DBU". The Seminoles are known for recruiting high-level talent at the position group. Just look at recent players such as Azareye'h Thomas, Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, Jammie Robinson, Derwin James, and Jalen Ramsey.
That is elite company. It is no wonder that the Seminoles continue to grab elite prospects. I know that Florida State football has hesitancies about the Seminoles' recruiting efforts, but one assistant coach that I am not worried about is defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr.
Surtain Sr. continues to recruit at a high level. That consistent theme continues as the Seminoles land five-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon from Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida.
UPDATE: BOOM! Class of 2026 five-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon from Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida has committed to Florida State. 🍢 #GoNoles #Tribe26 pic.twitter.com/n4zIxWVr9M

EXPANDED THOUGHTS
Noles247's Zach Blostein entered a crystal ball prediction in favor of Florida State for Kennon, so you knew that there had to be momentum headed in the right direction for the program. Then, Florida State defensive coordinator Tony White went on social media about the Seminoles' 2026 recruiting class, which was rare.
It should also be known that the talented defensive back has been in Tallahassee longer than the regular official visit stay. There was even speculation that he could have been committing before his July 6th decision date, but I figured that he probably told the staff that he would be pledging to the Garnet and Gold.
I am very impressed that defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and the ability to recruit regardless of the team's circumstances. This was a great get to secure yet another five-star prospect, just like he did with elite cornerback Charles Lester III.
This could be just what Florida State's coaching staff needed to continue to build momentum for its 2026 recruiting class as the Seminoles prepare for their 2025 season to begin on August 30th versus the Alabama Crimson Tide.
