Mario Cristobal can make life for Florida State fans worse if Miami lands elite QB

This could be a worst-case scenario for the Seminoles.

Florida State football finished with a 5-7 record to end its 2025 season. It was not the campaign that they wanted after beating Alabama in Week 1. Many expected the Seminoles to be serious playoff contenders, but they faded out of consideration.

The Seminole fan base is in a rough spot, as head football coach Mike Norvell was announced by the administration that he would be retained for the 2026 season. Norvell has had two winning seasons (2022 and 2023) in his six years as head football coach in Tallahassee.

Meanwhile, Florida State football fans always seem to joke about Miami being irrelevant for over twenty years and the fact that they have never won the conference. However, the joke is on the Seminole faithful since Miami is now in the College Football Playoff championship game, where they await the winner of Indiana and Oregon.

Miami will be hosting a top transfer quarterback prospect

There have been quarterbacks who have remained at their own respective schools, such as North Carolina State's CJ Bailey and South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers. However, the Miami Hurricanes have minded their own business and taken care of business first in the College Football Playoff, as they beat Ole Miss in a thriller of a game.

The Hurricanes under Mario Cristobal have gone into the transfer portal to get their last two quarterbacks in Cameron Ward and Carson Beck. Individuals knew that Miami couldn't just trust a recruit that they recruited out of high school to get things done.

As a result, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt will be visiting Miami this weekend.

Leavitt has already been on trips to Kentucky, LSU, and Tennessee, so it isn't a shock that he will visit Miami, also, given their success with transfer portal quarterbacks.

The Arizona State product could elevate Miami for another good season in 2026, which could ruin Florida State, which wants to be successful again. The Seminoles added Auburn's Ashton Daniels in the portal, which is nowhere near as exciting as Leavitt (hopefully, Daniels turns out to do well).

Overall, the Hurricanes invest in the line of scrimmage and a power running game. This could make it easier on Leavitt if he were to choose Miami. I really hope LSU head football coach Lane Kiffin has something up his sleeve to grab Leavitt and keep him out of Coral Gables.
