Local recruit scheduling his OV to arch-rival is a slap in the face to Florida State

Florida State landed three-star quarterback prospect Logan Flaherty from Port Charlotte, Florida, on Tuesday afternoon. Flaherty was a signal-caller that the coaching staff liked and had been a fan of for a while.

Flaherty isn't viewed by the fan base as an elite prospect, and some even question the coaching staff for taking another three-star prospect. Even though I think that the Florida native ends up being a 90 composite prospect (low four-star), fans will continue to show frustration with the product on the field.

Florida State is listed as the 38th-best recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite rankings. This is not where the fan base wants to be, as they expect the Seminoles to be in the top ten. However, that hasn't happened during head coach Mike Norvell's tenure at Florida State.

The reality is that the Seminoles have won a combined seven games in two seasons, and recruits see the results on the field. The fan base is giving up on head coach Mike Norvell after his recent struggles, but there is optimism from the administration as they retained him for the 2026 season. They have to see the potential of him having production as he did during 2022 and 2023.

One move in the recruiting trail that could make the fan base stop believing in Mike Norvell is the situation with local four-star wide receiver prospect Jamarin Simmons from Godby High School in Tallahassee, Florida. Simmons has four crystal ball predictions to land with the Clemson Tigers.

Four-star wide receiver Jamarin Simmons isn't officially visiting with Florida State on June 4th

The thought process was that Florida State and Clemson were the two teams involved in his recruitment. The Tigers were expected to get an official visit with him on May 29th, while the Seminoles were getting him on June 4th.

However, those plans have changed, as Simmons is now officially visiting the arch-rival Florida Gators on June 4th, and the official visit with Florida State will no longer happen. While the Seminoles want to have a smaller wide receiver haul this cycle, they are almost banking on them getting both four-star Sean Green and four-star Cam Wade. They might not have a chance at another pass catcher.

Florida State has already seen four-star wide receiver Jabari Watkins cancel his official visit with the Seminoles, and now the fan base can experience salt in the wound as Jamarin Simmons canceled his as well.
