Florida State baseball faces many question marks after its early exit against the Pittsburgh Panthers in the ACC Tournament. The unlikely goal of getting a top-eight national seed was put to bed, as the Panthers beat the Seminoles by a score of 8-6.
This was a situation where the fan base thought that Florida State baseball would bounce back. The Seminoles had already swept Pittsburgh at home earlier in the year, but playing away from Dick Howser Stadium is a difficult task.
The offense is already battling without the services of the do-it-all hitter Myles Bailey after he suffered a season-ending injury when he slid into second base. One aspect that doesn't get talked about enough, because of their lack of power hitting, the bullpen isn't the same without veteran John Abraham.
This is an encouraging sign for Florida State with the potential return of John Abraham
Abraham has turned into one of the better relievers in college baseball. He has a 1-1 record with a 1.04 ERA on 55 strikeouts in 43.1 innings pitched (according to baseball-reference). The junior has not pitched in a game since a May 8th meeting against Clemson on the road.
It all begins as they take on St. John's Friday at 3 PM EST in Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles will be starting Bryson Moore on the mound for the matchup, instead of siding with ace Wes Mendes. This could be a smart idea for the Seminoles, as Friday night's game isn't an elimination one.
Fans were panicking because head coach Link Jarrett made it seem like he didn't know what was going on with Abraham. The Seminoles are still searching for the coveted first national championship in program history, as they hosted their regional.
This could come back to haunt the Seminoles' bullpen if Abraham doesn't play, but Coach Jarrett spoke to the media on Thursday that the veteran had a bullpen session that reminded the head coach of Abraham's old self again.
Some notes from @CNee247's live updates:
— Brett Nevitt (@brettpn) May 28, 2026
- Said John Abraham's bullpen on Wednesday was vintage JA.
- Jarrett feels Abraham and Manca are available for a good amount of pitches.
- Nathan Cmeyla is good to go as of today.
Florida State's pitching staff is already above average, but having an extra arm in the bullpen could do wonders for a team that likely needs to win low-offensive games 3-2 or 4-3 against teams in the postseason.
