Florida State's 2027 recruiting class is not in the spot that many fans want it to be, as they rank outside the top-50 in the 247Sports Composite. It is easy to be negative after arch-rivals Florida and Miami are being successful on the trail.
Miami's Mario Cristobal just made the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, and Florida's Jon Sumrall has the "new car smell" after just arriving in Gainesville. Meanwhile, head coach Mike Norvell is entering his seventh season in Tallahassee, so the concern is valid.
Florida State only has seven commitments in the class, but they did land a pledge from last official visit weekend with three-star Eric Vaulx Jr. It also seems like the Seminoles could land four-star running back Jayden Miles too.
Noles247's Kolby Crawford entered a crystal ball prediction in favor of Florida State for three-star defensive lineman Jason Lewis from Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida. The official visit weekend could be productive for the Seminoles.
There has been plenty of discussion about the prospects that they are trying to grab, but the program also needs to keep the pledges that they have in the fold.
Quarterback Logan Flaherty is on campus this weekend, so the coaching staff knew that he had to come to town to help out with the recruiting efforts. Florida State already had four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams de-commit from the Seminoles and go to the Wisconsin Badgers (gross, I know).
Linebacker commit Gregory Batson gives Florida State fans encouraging news about his recruitment
The morale of the recruiting class is low with the disaster that Florida State has been through, and still having head coach Mike Norvell employed. However, the Seminoles had an important committed visitor this weekend with four-star linebacker Gregory Batson.

Batson was supposed to officially visit Mississippi State next weekend, but can Florida State shut down his recruitment during this trip? 👀 #GoNoles #Tribe27 pic.twitter.com/hURSXGMOyG
Batson has been pledged to the Seminoles since November 2025, so he witnessed Florida State's struggles last season. With that said, Batson is the only linebacker pledged to the class, and assistant coach Ernie Sims got former four-star Izayia Williams to sign during last year's cycle. However, the Seminoles need to always acquire as much talent as they possibly can.
Batson was planning to officially visit Mississippi State next weekend, but with the Georgia native classifying Doak Campbell Stadium as "home". Florida State needs to continue stacking good news updates together.
The linebacker position hasn't been kind to the Seminoles over the past decade, but hopefully
